Spotting soot and deposits
Deposits in the EGR system
Our photograph shows carbon deposits inside an EGR pipe. Professional workshop diagnosis and maintenance to manufacturer specifications remain necessary.
Why can the valve stick?
Exhaust gas recirculation routes a portion of the exhaust gas back into the intake tract, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions. Combustion residues can restrict valve movement. HELLA documents a case where electrical signals were normal, but the valve remained mechanically stuck open.
What helps diagnose the issue?
Rough idling, hesitation or a check engine light can point to issues, but are not definitive proof of EGR failure. Diagnosis involves checking fault codes, electronic actuation and physical valve movement. The root cause of repeated carbon buildup must also be investigated.
Keeping maintenance in perspective: Diesel System is added to the fuel. That does not mean there is proven direct cleaning of an EGR valve that is already sticking. If there is a defect, workshop diagnosis is the next step.
